John Korostil |
John Korostil is
interested in the dynamics and tensions that exist within nature,
using the visual arts (painting, photography, sculpture, etc.) to
magnify and contextualize his subjects in pieces that are in turns
sublime and intricately detailed.
Whether a commission or through his own need to create, he
approaches each work intending to experience the process where the
results are not the sole destination, rather indicators to a journey
traveled. An active outdoorsman with careers in both forestry and
teaching, John anticipates his pieces with broad thoughts and ideas
that are refined though an in-context involvement with his natural
surroundings and photography, often the source from which he builds
an intricate understanding of the subject, later to be examined
through painting and sculpture. The works tread a delicate balance
between the coherent and the abstract, often with thick applications
of paint to enhance various textures and harmony of colours to
capture light and the multitude of shades that exist within the
subject’s surroundings.
John lives in Milton, Ontario with his wife and daughter. |
